BCF
President’s Message 2010

Since being elected
as President of The Bahamas Chess Federation in 2005, we have
been able to build on the successes of the past as well as
successfully introduced new initiatives.
This year, 2010, we
intend to consolidate our successes through the following Four
Point Plan:
1.
Promote the Benefits of
Chess and a Chess in Schools Programme
This will be done by meeting with officials of the Ministry of
Education and submitting a proposal to establish a pilot
programme in the public schools.
It will be our objective for the BCF to partner with the
Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports and the
Bahamian Business Community to promote chess as an activity for
children.
- Place renewed
focus on promoting Chess throughout The Bahamas
Over the past three
years most of the BCF efforts have been placed on promoting
organized chess in Grand Bahama.
We intend to connect with interested Community groups in
the Family Islands and assist them with developing Chess as an
activity for children and adults.
- Establish a
Junior Chess Development Programme
The
objective of the programme will be to give participants ample
opportunities to develop their chess playing skills and to learn
about chess. We
will utilize our adult members to assist with training and
solicit The World Chess Federation (FIDE) through its
Development Committee (CACDEC) to provide training opportunities
for our more talented Juniors.
- Increase the
participation of the BCF in the World Chess Community
The
BCF needs to establish and strengthen ties with regional and
other members of The Small Nations Chess Association (SNACA).
We hope that this can be accomplished by doing the
following:
1.
Hosting FIDE Caribbean
Sub Zonal 2010 in The Bahamas;
2.
Organizing Internet
Chess Matches with other SNACA member countries; and
3.
Participating in the
World Chess Federation Congress 2010 and/or the Congress of the
Confederation of Chess in America.
In order for us to
accomplish these goals we need to demonstrate our commitment as
administrators and members of the Bahamas Chess Federation.
It is imperative that we follow our motto “Carpe Diem”
and “Cease the Day”.
We are once again
optimistic about our plans for 2010 and are excited about
hosting the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Caribbean Chess Sub
Zonal in June of this year.
On behalf of the 2010
Executive Committee, I take this opportunity to wish the BCF
Members, Friends and Well Wishers a successful New Year and many
good games of Chess.
Best Regards,
Kean Alfred Smith
President
Bahamas Chess Federation
